REX Robotics · Swap24 Series

Robots that never park to charge.

The Swap24 Series is a hot-swappable battery platform for personal assistant robots. One cassette interface, three capacities, a charging station and a bridge module — so your system stays in service around the clock, whether it works a hospital ward, a care home corridor or a hotel lobby.

The platform

One functional unit. Three robot builds.

Care, hospital and hotel robots share the same core: a mobile base, a compute stack with sensors and a display. What differs is what is built on top. Swap24 follows that logic — the front face (108 × 228 mm), connector, latch and handle of every cassette are identical; only the depth changes with capacity. Same bay, same Dock, no adjustment. Design one bay, choose the capacity per site.

Platform architecture: cassette, robot, Dock and fleet software
  • Swap24 cassettes

High-energy NMC cassettes in 400, 750 and 1000 Wh. 24 V, integrated BMS, CAN interface, IP54 housing that survives daily disinfection. One handle, one click, five LEDs.

  • Swap24 Dock

Two- or four-bay charging station. Charges any cassette size, runs a life-extending shift-mode charging window, updates firmware and reports cassette health to your fleet software.

  • Swap24 Bridge

A compact buffer module for single-bay robots. Keeps compute, sensors and safety functions alive for up to five minutes while the cassette is exchanged.

  • Reference bay & integration

CAD, connector and latch reference design for robot OEMs, plus integration support from our engineers in the Netherlands.

How hot-swap works

Swap, don’t park.

Pull, click, dock
  1. 01

    Pull

The cassette shows its charge on the LED bar. Press the latch and lift it out by the handle. Contacts are recessed and de-energised the moment it leaves the bay.

  2. 02

    Click

Slide a charged cassette in until it locks. The BMS handshakes with the robot, pre-charges its output and joins the power bus without a spike. In dual-bay robots the second cassette carries the load throughout.

  3. 03

    Dock

Place the empty cassette in the Swap24 Dock. It charges at 0.5 C — about 1.6 hours to 80 % — and reports its health to your fleet dashboard.

A pool of 1.5 to 2 cassettes per robot covers 24/7 operation.

Why hot-swap

A robot is only useful when it is available.

In care homes, hospitals and hotels these robots guide, deliver, remind and reassure — for sixteen hours a day or more. A robot that spends four hours a day at a charger is half a robot. REX builds the battery as a platform: a cassette any trained team member can exchange in seconds, a dock that charges cassettes while robots keep working, and the data your fleet software needs to plan swaps instead of reacting to empty batteries.

Use cases

The same platform, three very different days.

Care, hospital and hotel deployments differ in duty cycle, who does the swap and how much traceability is needed.

  • Care home

    Companion and care assistant

At the morning handover a care assistant pulls the cassette, clicks in a charged one and puts the empty one in the Dock at the nurses’ station. The robot never switches off. Staff are carers, not technicians: a 3 kg cassette with one handle is the whole user interface.

  • Hospital

    Ward and logistics assistant

With two cassettes on board each robot has around fifteen hours of runtime, so one swap per shift is enough — one cassette at a time, while the robot keeps running on the other. Every cassette is logged with serial number, state of health and temperature history for the quality file.

  • Hotel

    Guest service and delivery robot

A front-office employee swaps cassettes in a quiet moment — it takes less time than answering a phone call. At 1.9 kg the lightest cassette in the family, trainable in ten minutes, and upgradable to larger cassettes when hours or robots grow.

The deployments above are illustrative examples of how the platform is configured per segment.

Safety & compliance

Built for public spaces.

  • Cell-level protection

Every cell monitored individually, propagation barriers between cells, a pack fuse and an independent second-level protector.

  • Live only after handshake

Recessed contacts that carry no voltage until the cassette has handshaked with the robot.

  • Disinfectant-resistant

Housings validated against alcohol, quaternary-ammonium and hydrogen-peroxide wipes; antimicrobial finish available.

  • Certification

    IEC 62133-2 · UN 38.3 · CE · battery-passport ready · designed as a safety component for ISO 13482 robots.
